American Hustle: A Review

By Tony Folden

Let me first start by saying that the entire cast of this film was brilliant. I don’t think Louis C. K. got the opportunity to shine, but he did a great job with his character, nonetheless. I’ve never been a huge fan of Christian Bale, but I thought his performance in this piece was brilliant. His character was complex, but he played the role expertly. Bradley Cooper did an amazing job. You know exactly what type of person his character is from the moment you first meet him. Amy Adams pulled off a brilliant performance and Jennifer Lawrence was amazing as usual.

The story was loosely based on the FBI operation ABSCAM. The writers did a great job with dialogue. The cinematography was a bit different, but it worked well. Focal points were chosen wisely and did a terrific job of bringing the audience into the scene. The camera followed the natural path that your eyes wanted to follow. The direction was excellent. Everything was so well choreographed that the tension during the climax was palpable. You could feel that something was about to happen; you just didn’t know what it was or where it was going to come from. I won’t give any spoilers and I won’t give away any details. I don’t want to ruin the experience. If you want to see a great film, go see American Hustle. You won’t be disappointed.
